I have heard so many people say how boring running is, but I took it up nearly 20 years ago (so yes i am a mature woman) and it has always helped me lose weight whenever I have become a little heavy, and it really helps your appetite and sleep patterns, as well as your complexion. With a little determination and a date with your diary couple of times a week, it will do wonders for your outlook. Don't give yourself too much of an objective, (like running a marathon when you have only every run 2 miles..!!), aim for easy targets to start with, and then once you're up to say 5 miles, find out about some local organised runs, a great way to motivate you and meet like minded people. There may even be a running club nearby.. HAPPY RUNNING..!!

I agree - I have been running for about 10 years and find it a great way to relax and clear your mind. I wish I had done more swimming though as I have recurring knee problems from ill-fitting running shoes way back.

There's a lot of scientific proof out there to back this up too.

i think anything in moderation good, try running off road as the surface is kinder to knees

my husband only runs on the roads if he's running at night, or to get from one trail to another.
  • Re: Running

I only do it a couple of times a week, but i love it  - so relaxing, time to myself to unwind.

I love it - to me it's the most basic expression of energy, like being a kid again.

For all the exercise i do, i find it hard to keep my weight down if i'm not running.  But more than that, i find it's the one thing i can do anytime, any place.

It's just so relaxing AND a great workout - what more could you ask for?

I'm pretty much a gym guy, but i'd have to say most bodybuilders use running to keep their weight down.
