  • Gym help needed, moving to London...

    Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum and in need of some guidance.
I'm moving to Teddington, Surrey at the end of September and looking for a new training program. I currently workout around 4 times per week doing ballet and tae bo at home (DVD). I'm a trrained dancer so I'm very good at motivating myself. Plus, I love the quiet time that you lack in gyms!

So, I'm moving to Teddington and the gyms appear to be extortionate. I'm not too sure I'll be able to do my DVD as easily as I'll be working all day and my boyfriend will be there at night. It's not the largest so I think I may struggle.

I'll be working in Covent Garden so can anyone suggest any classes at a decent price that I could visit after work 3/4 times per week? I'm an actress by trade so won't have cash to throw around at some of the more luscious gyms (sadly)! I also agree that the smaller gyms are nicer and better than the over-rated larger ones but where are they???

This is REALLY concerning me and I could do with some advice. If anyone can offer any information it would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently contacting gyms and weighing up my options.

    Thanks all.
    Sam

    Hi Sam,

If you're working in Covent Garden your choices are wider than out in Teddington - although many will be more expensive as you are probably aware.

Workout what you want to pay for - for example do you need a sauna and jacuzzi - if not then don't choose a gym that has them as you will be paying for it through your membership!

My initial suggestion is the Central YMCA just off Tottenham Court Road could be the answer - loads of classes and great gym equipment - I am not sure of the price though. Otherwise check out some of the local leisure centres down in Teddington to track down slightly cheaper routes to getting yourself fitter!

Hope that all helps - alternatively you could look at the PruHealth medical insurance deal we're currently writing up a review on. See our health clubs section or do a search for pruhealth using the search above.

That's so hard, isn't it?  Take your time and really weigh up your options - it's tempting to look at price first, but really it should be the last thing you look at - find a place that you will use and enjoy, then figure out how to pay for it!

that's true - i've joined a 'cheap' gym before, thought it was a good deal, but i didn't go, so it was a total waste of money.  i'm not saying pick the most expensive, but do figure out what will motivate you to go regularly.
