  • How soon will I see results?

Hi all, wondering if some advice can be given.  I have over 5 stone to lose and I have joined the gym after trying many a diet! I am more than aware that I need ot be patient ot see any weight loss as fat turns in to muscle etc, and  I am following a strict healthy diet written for me by the gym - but how soon should I see some results.  It is now week 3 and even a loss of half  a pound would be motivating! In general, how soon should I see a result besides on the measuring tape? I have heard it can be between 3 months and a year when surfing aorund the websites!!!

    Thanks

    L

    Hi  L,

You say you have been at it for three weeks now. Well done. You clearly do not have a food addiction, like myself, otherwise you would have already given up.

By chance I have around the same weight loss to achieve. If I get it together, as I hope to, I would expect to lose, as a male, around four to five pounds per week, initially, but that must only be averaged out after about six weeks on the diet where you do not weigh yourself at all.

Weighing yourself too early will result in being upset at not losing more weigh more quickly.

Eating less meat and dairy is essential to health and if you can stomache it, eating some foods without cooking them, will be a real beneft. I don't mean chickens of course, but green veggies. I.E. celery, spinach, kale, cucumber and any peppers.

Cutting out alcohol is another requirement. If you believe you can get by drinking the stuff you are probably mistaken. You will feel better if you give it a miss.

Try to remember that when you ask about results, you give the impression that there will be a definate timescale to this diet of yours. In other words your diet has a beginning and therefore an end. It does have a start for sure, but it will never end.

What you should be trying to achieve, is a sensible eating programme that you can sustain without the need to even think about it.

Finally, exercise and a social life are essential. Many Fat folks, myself included are bored. If major life changes are out of the question, like going to live in a different part of the world or country, or changing living arrangements, boyfriends/husbands, girlfriends/wives, etc etc, then you must do something for yourself, and I don't mean watching endless repeats of Friends on E4.

You get the idea i'm sure.

    Go for it L.
