    There is a relatively new massage therapy which involves flicking the muscles to release tension etc.., has anyone heard of this or knows what it is called... I am new to this forum so will be asking a few questions... Tot

    I have heard about that too, but can't find the name either. I am not sure if it is a specific sports massage technique or more of a physio skill..

    hi, I think the type of massage you are referring to is called "myopractic massage". It is known as a cross fibre muscle technique, it is normally used with the following sequence:

    Firstly, look for lymph pooling - anywhere there is a muscle lesion, there will be associated swelling from lymph fluid.
    Secondly, they look for visual abnormalities such as the muscle temperature, as the swollen areas will be hotter to touch.
    Finally, they look at the integrity of the skeletal structure to check for any misalignments, starting with the pelvis.

    The benefits of this are well proven - if you have muscle or joint pain, therapeutic massage can be very helpful.
