There has been loads of stuff in all the mags these past couple of years about botox, I would like to try it but want to find out more from people that have actually had it done, so any reply would be really helpful.

My advice would be to give it a try in a small area, say your forhead and see the results, it does work, is relatively painless and is not permanent if you don't really like the result, as you do see some celebs in the mags looking like a rabbit in the headlights!

Yes, give it a go. Very negative press about the actual stuff used, but lets face it, cancer drugs are poison aren't they. In small doses this is a perfectly safe minor procedure to have, but make sure you find a practitioner recommended by someone.

Stay in shape and eat right, it will do far more for your overall apperance than getting poison pumped into your face.

Well that's not true. It may help but as you get older some people simply look older, get more wrinkles, get saggy boobs etc. before others. I do think botox appeals to the more vain members of society that have personal hangups, but hey it's their choice to pump chemicals into their bodies!

i'm too scared of needles to ever try it.

I don't agree with you - i reckon at least 50% of what we call aging is down to lifestyle choices - people who stay in shape and eat right look years if not decades younger.  of course we all age eventually, but living well is so much more the answer than something like botox.

It's like plastic surgery - you can always tell when someone's had it done, so instead of looking younger, which is what you want to happen, you are just a joke.

I think you have to decide how you feel about your body - if you're prepared to inject toxic chemcials in order to temporarily get rid of a few wrinkles, go for it.  But are you doing everything you can to work with the body and reduce the signs of aging?  The combined effects of not smoking, getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and exercising regularly are far more profound and long lasting than the effects of botox.

There are multiple advantages for using botox:

    • the whole procedure takes little time, no anesthesia is needed and the person can get back to his/her usual activities almost immediately
    • the effects appear in a short period of time (3 to 5 days) and last from three to four months
    • the treatment can be repeated and in time its effects will start lasting longer
    • it can also help with sweating (by paralyzing the muscles responsible for it) when injected in small amounts into the underarm skin or skin on the palms and soles of the hand or foot
    • improves the appearance of the skin (the patient can look many years younger than they are)
The side effects of using botox are:
    • pain and bruising  in the area where the injections were made
    • rarely a paralyze or weakness of the muscles in the neighborhood with the area where botox was injected
    • temporary headaches can occur
    • less that 1% of patients have reported the drooping of the eyelid.

Some of these side effects can disappear with a proper shot technique and some precaution (no exercise and no massage on the area of injection for 4 hours after injection).
But the big cons are to be mentioned:

    • the fact that it makes you act some how unnatural because you are not able to revel all your emotions (part of the face mimic being blocked)
    • because some parts of the face is “frozen” somehow the brain redirects the impulses to other muscles and wrinkles can grow in parts of the face which is not treated and where there weren't before.
