  • Very confused about weight loss and diet planning

I am being bombarded with different articles on what diet plans to do, how to lose weight safely and information on hi-protein, low carb vs hi-fibre.

Can anyone help on this one.

    I'm 5'6" and weigh 150lbs.

    Heya,

I think the key thing to remember when you're choosing a diet is that you need to pick something that fits into your lifestyle and suits your tastes - otherwise you just won't stick with it. Trust me. I know. Most of the diet plans on the market today make weight loss simpler by giving you rules and guidelines - what to eat, when and how much - so you don't have to think about it, just follow the rules. But whatever the diet, they tend to work on basically the same principles - to lose weight you've got to burn more calories than you consume. So really, in my experience, choosing a diet plan is about what appeals to you - if you're busy, don't pick something that takes lots of prep, if you don't like vegetables, don't pick a diet where veg is 70% of what you eat.

    Good luck!

    Hi:

It is very confusing - the trouble is that most diets or plans are extreme versions designed to get you to buy into their plan so they can make money.

If you feel you need some help you can talk to your doctor or a dietician who will be able to give you some good, unbiased advice.

Of the various diets out there the GI diet is based on good science and encourages healthy eating.

    Cheers,

    Don

I think it's one of the best diets to come along - probably becuase it is research based, not someone's idea to make a quick buck!
