    Hey everybody,

I heard that Sweet potato was a superfood - I'm wondering what this means - and how it impacts on a training regieme and diet?

  • Re: Is Sweet Potato a Superfood?

It's an excellent food to include in your diet, but this whole superfood concept is flawed.  You need a balance of foods, a good vareity - this is good one to include, but don't go crazy on them.

They eat it a lot in America, don't they?  does it have a lot of vitamins or something?
  • Re: Is Sweet Potato a Superfood?

That's a new one on me - what's it supposed to do for you?
  • Re: Is Sweet Potato a Superfood?

My kids had it in America, covered in marshmallows and baked - they loved it, surprise, surprise!

I don't know about a superfood, but they are yummy!

They've just got lots of vitamins - plus they're orange and dark green and orange veg are anticarcenogenic (probably spelt that wrong...my spelling's crap), and also sweet potatoes are high in the right kind of fibre (so they help to keep you regular).  But yeah - the superfood thing is only good if you include them in a balanced diet - too much of anything's not good for you.

They're wonderful baked with potatoes, parsnips, carrots, a bit of olive oil and some oregano.  Wonderful with roast chicken.

It's one of those brightly coloured veg that's really good for you, isn't it?  I think they have lots of vitamins.  They sure taste good!

    Sweet Potato RULES!!!!  Big Smile

They have less calories in them than normal potatos, and yes lots and lots of vitamins.

My reccomendation is to roast them (not so good on the calories, but they caramelise and taste lush.  Sweet potato and suede mash tastes good too.  Even sweet potato jacket potatos...mmmmm, this is making me hungry.

Serving them with marshmallows sounds disgusting ....AMERICANS...how do they manage to turn everything that is good for you in to crap???

     ENJOY!!!!

The sweet potato deserves to be on the highest perch because it is a nutritional powerhouse with 4 ounces of cooked pulp supplying 2 grams of protein, 3.4 grams of fiber, 24.6 mg of vitamin C, 28 mg of calcium, 22.6 mcg of folic acid, 20 mg of magnesium, 348 mg of potassium, and a whopping 21822 I.U. of vitamin A.
