has anyone heard anything about vibration training?  it's touted as a wonder workout - supposedly you can get a full workout in 10 minutes!  sounds too good to be true.

    Hi gymguy,

There are two main suppliers Powerplate and Vibrogym, there products are both technically similar, im sure they would happily differentiate!! there seems to be two ranges a home range which is circa £3k and a professional @ £6k!!! they are 2 different sizes, I cant comment on there functionality as i havent tried one yet, the only reason I know this is because ive just been looking at them on a gym shop.... heres the link  http://www.home-gym-equipment.co.uk/Strength/VibrationTraining/index.htm

    Happy studying!!

I think they use a similiar vibrating base but its down to the aesthetics. The 6k one seems like a lot of money...you could buy a good home gym for that?
  • Re: vibration training

they claim they are useful for osteoporisis?...however i'm struggling to see how they work for losing weight?
  • Re: vibration training

I read an article about this last week.  As the other reply said, it's certainly expensive, and the jury is still out on how effective it really is.  More hype than hard facts at this stage I'd have to say - Colin Montgomery the golfer is a big fan, and you can see just how fit he looks!
  • Re: vibration training

I'd treat anything that makes the promises I've seen for vibration training with a pinch of salt.  I'd stick with hard work and smart workouts until anything better comes along!
  • Re: vibration training

I also read the article where Colin montgomery endorsed vibration training-  he's not exactly a poster-child for physical fitness is he?  As someonme else said, you could get a hell of a home gym for £6K!

It is worldly known in the golf world that Colin Montgomery has suffered from a bad back for a number of years and use's vibration training for rehab purpose's. Studies have shown that it is good for muscle atrophy, cellulite reduction, rehab, ms, osteoporosis, massage pre and post exercise, elderly, core stability, posture and up to now all signs of research done by respectable members of the sports science world have proven to be possitive. Where ever you read that 10 mins is enough to acheive any form of muscle building or cardio vascular fitness is not possible with any new bit of kit that comes to the forfront of the industry. I have been in the fitness industry for the last 10 years and have seen new bits of kit come and go, the vibro gym is a revaltion. In any form of exercise you will need to do 30 min 3 times per week and maintain a good balance diet. This type of training has been around since 1997 and we have only just taped into the market in this country (as usual 10 years to late).

Didn't the Russians develop it originally?
  • Re: vibration training

anything like that should be used as a supplement to your regualr training not instead of it.
  • Re: vibration training

How does it actually work?  Sounds kinky!
  • Re: vibration training

I've never even heard of this - is it for real?
  • Re: vibration training

Whatever the equipment, you still need to do an intense, quality workout to get results.
  • Re: vibration training

There are several machines now on the market, you don't have to pay £,000's and they do supplement training. The one I ended up buying was from mendyourhealth.co.uk for £300 and it is very popular in the house. The price range I found started from around £150 up to the Power plates costing over £6,000 and there are loads of suppliers. Very happy with mine

£300 sounds good - what's the quality like?
