    my friend said she lost weight on the coffee diet - i thought she was kidding, but she was serious.  anyone ever heard of it?  it sounds pretty weird - too good to be true.

    hard to imagine losing weight on ten cups of latte per day.  Better buy shares in starbucks before you start!

    I think it's based on the idea that caffeine speeds up your metabolism - you drink black coffee with no sugar for a couple of weeks - i'd be awake and buzzing the whole time!

    I wouldn't fancy that in the long term - apart from being awake 24/7, i'd think you'd be on the loo the whole time and have that stinky coffee breath too.

    It's got to be better than the cabbage diet or any of those weird ones where you can only eat one thing!

    Hi:

    Drinking a lot of coffee could give a short-term boost to your metabolism, and thus burn more calories, but unless you also changed your diet/exercise habits you'd quickly put the weight back on.  If you want to boost your metabolism, do it on a long-term basis by lifting weights or using interval training.
