My sister is always going on about how much ketchup my kids use - she doesn't have kids - but i don't think it's a problem.  it's not like they have it on everything - and it's got loads of tomatoes in it.  what do people think?

I reckon if your kids eat a balanced diet, having ketchup 3 or 4 times per week won't do them any harm at all - my daughter dips her broccoli in it and as a result eats loads of broccoli!

My sister and i practically grew up on it!  my mum figured that if it helped us to eat a greater variety of food, then it was fine.  Gradually we ate more and more types of food without it.

It has a bit of sugar in it, but unless they're drinking it I wouldn't be too worried!  It does also have lots of vitamins A and C, and lycopene which is supposed to be very good for you.

I think your sister needs to spend more time in the real world!  It's what kids do, and it's a lot better than most of the nutritional horrors they're subjected to these days!

If their overal diet is good i wouldn't worry about the ketchup!
  • Re: Is ketchup OK?

I'm guessing your sister doesn't have any kids!

I agree with the general setiments - whilst ketchup does have a lot of sugar content-wise - for starters children are unlikely to be drinking it and at meal times your chewqing stimulates enzymes designed to cope with sugars and acids etc.

Get them on to HP Brown - for real men ;)

I tried HP brown sauce once - I think it must be what's politely called an acquired taste!
