I've been having a bit of pain in my knee lately, below the kneecap, which I think is patellar tendinitis.  When i was in the US a couple of years back I saw several runners with some kind of knee strap for this - anyone know what this is or where i can get one?

I know the things you mean.  I think they're called Cho-Pat - I'm sure if you do a google search you'll find someone over here sells them.  When I lived in the states I knew several runners who swore by them.

I've seen those once or twice in races and wondered what they were.
